What is Leviathan?
Leviathan is a sub-type of 1 vs 1 Commander born from the ideas of TOs, judges and players who love the format and want to prevent the disintegration of the Italian community. The initial development phase was conducted by the communities of Genoa and Sesto San Giovanni.
What differentiates it from Duel Commander?
Leviathan is very similar to the French version of 1 vs 1 Commander, but it won’t share the recent changes made by the French Committee and will therefore maintain the distinctive 30 life points. The format’s own ban list, which for the moment is very similar to French one, will be perfected in the coming weeks. We decided to conduct the transition as cautiously as possible and to acquire our own identity over time.
How will this project be developed regarding organised play?
Leviathan is a new format that will be sponsored by many TOs of the WPN network. We will only support sanctioned tournaments organised by stores affiliated to Wizards in order to maintain a good relationship with the company towards future collaboration and, we hope, an official acknowledgement.
Who takes decisions?
A small group of founders has been working on this project for the last month and will lay the groundwork on which we will develop our platform in the most member-active way we can. We are no dictators, just people who are very passionate about the game. We will mostly harmoniously coordinate the organisers who are interested in the format.
Anyone who wants to help out is welcome.
What about the ban list?
Our ban list is different from the French one in that we decided to give a second chance to Yisan, Marath and Necrotic Ooze. These cards will be playable in the present Leviathan meta. Maybe the list won’t be perfect as it is and neither will be our choices related to ruling, but we are here to grow stronger. Our goal is to really take the players’ feedback into account in hopes of evolving together with your experiences.
Why should the community follow us?
While we acknowledge the Committee’s efforts in developing Duel Commander, we decided to take a different path and we hope that the Italian community will follow us in our endeavour. We are convinced of the project’s goodness and we can boast excellent relationships with multiple organisers belonging to the Wizards Play Network who already expressed their will to support us.
